Devlog #3 - September

Put away your pitchforks and clean your boots, this time it’s all about art and creativity !

This environment’s design presents a whole set of challenges, as it's the most different from the Great Tree, having no natural features. We must build upon the themes of art and creation, while maintaining a look that remains consistent with the rest of the game.

The master of the place possesses unique creative talents. However, the melancholic atmosphere and the abandoned works scattered along the corridors hint at a more somber story...

Unfinished creations and living materials, the creatures haunting this place will do anything to drive away intruders. And the music intensifies with the rhythm of battle.

A lighthouse perched on the branches of a tree ?!

See that glowing rock at the top ? That’s fluorite, a rare luminescent gemstone. It’s hard to imagine it guiding ships to a place like this, so what purpose could it serve ?

You can’t explore abyssal depths with just a snorkel and fins. With this gear, straight out of a Jules Verne novel, treasure hunters are able to reach the most forgotten corners of the deep.

We'd love to tell you more about this visual. What does this statue represent ? Is there a toothbrush gigantic enough for it ? These are questions we prefer to leave you to figure out for yourself.

Here are some sketches of marine creatures. These shells seem to have quite a personality…

Summit Farm is taking shape… literally.

The entrance is quite sinister. You would have to be brave to cross that threshold. And even braver to approach those vats of pink milk. Just the idea that cheese could be made from it...

Exploring the farm by blowing up grain sacks, crates, and bales of hay is really fun. Luckily, we don't ask the player to sweep up afterward !

With all his stock of straw, Diego could feed a whole poultry army ! Plus, he uses the power of the wind to operate wool-spinning machines—ingenious !

Since all objects can be used as ammunition, we can assign them a variety of effects. This video showcases the first take on the effects of freezing, poisoning, and stunning.

The Great Tree lives up to its name : players will be able to explore several of its floors in the game, each filled with different points of interest. The walkways between the branches serve as streets, and we are already starting to think about how the shops, houses, and services will be organized.

The level design of the Great Tree is expected to change frequently during production as new content is added. Developing tools to streamline the process will save us a lot of time. With this one, we can make the paths, connecting different areas, adapt to the Tree's morphology in real time.

In a similar vein, we developed a tool that allows us to create Duramen roots in just a few clicks. It’s quick while still maintaining a natural and organic appearance.

Seasons will play a very important role in Acornia. In addition to dictating the rhythm of crops and the arrival of certain events, they will also be the reason for visual and auditory changes in the Tree.

Some characters will be associated with this. With his red beard and mischievous eyes, Hesper looks like he stepped right out of an autumn forest.

Several furniture sets will be available so that each player can create a unique dwelling. For those who never miss a chance to sleep in, the woolly set is one of the most comfortable !

It seems that Alva could really use it...

Lyra is Alva's older sister. When the Tree fell ill, she went to seek help in the mysterious Healing Grounds. Upon her return, after examining the Great Tree, she came to the conclusion that evacuating it was the only way to stem the illness.

For almost ten years, she has been trying to soothe the soul of the Great Tree, while her uncle Oliver takes care of its bark. With her unique knowledge, she will play a crucial role in Alva's quest, by helping her shape spiritual keys that open the entrances to the Duramen dungeons.

Don't tell anyone, but Lyra can't cook, let alone sing. But no one has dared to tell her… Probably because she has a heart of gold.

Pierre has finally arrived at Splashteam ! His desk couldn't wait for him any longer, and neither could we.

He is our new 3D Artist. He’s so skilled in Blender that some suspect he might have invented it. His talents will be more than necessary to add an extra dimension to our concept arts !

That’s it for the month of September !
